The Round Program has six core components to deal with anxiety and stress for health care professionals as explained below.

A Musical Start

The Moral Resilience at Johns Hopkins conducts a live Zoom session twice a week in which clinicians from anywhere in the world can join in. Around five to thirty physicians, who have experienced distress since the pandemic join the session regularly.

In the beginning, the musicians from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University perform a little musical interlude to set the pace for the virtual session and to fill the awkward gap when physicians are joining the call.

A Safe Space to Share Problems

The session then moves into another segment, where moving together as a community while strictly being confidential is stressed upon. It allows healthcare professionals to unburden their concerns.

Researchers are hoping to make it a physiologically safe place to share. The hosts are providing an option to hide their names or use another one to conceal their identity. They have the option to turn off the camera unless they speak or even share their thoughts in the chatbox if they don’t feel like talking to anybody.

To Find a State of Mindfulness

The next phase is to practice five-minute mindfulness amidst the hectic day. They are then asked to write in the chatbox that how are they doing to get an idea of what they think and how their day went.

From there, the hosts go for cognitive content and helps attendees understand the purpose of the session. They talk about moral resilience, how to deal with crises, and how many zones are there to project the full-scale moral resilience.

A Little Briefing into Last Week

In each session, they review the discussed topics previously.

The themes revolve majorly around the stress handling regarding patients who are suffering/dying alone and changes in visitations with families. Moreover, there is a theme, where physicians are taught how to cope with their stress.

Open Panel Discussion

Medical billing services, healthcare professionals, all in this phase state what bothers them and the ethical concerns running on their minds. The discussion goes from one person to another, and the hosts encourage everyone to participate instead of providing solutions on their own. Different people with different expertise give their two cents and everybody feels confident discussing their matters.

Equal Support for Everyone

In the end, physicians brief their understanding of the lesson learned in this session.

These sessions are designed particularly to help physicians feel supported and informed. They follow a pattern so that physicians don’t leave the conversation being puzzled by a problem. They get an idea of how to resource themselves and how to enable them against emotional disparity.

These Moral Round sessions focus on naming ethical concerns that clinicians feel every day for better understanding.
